A Fnordlicht is a special kind of lamp which is able to display lots of different colors by additive color mixing.
It uses an Atmel Atmega8 processor to control a matrix of 9 red LEDs, 9 green LEDs and 9 Blue LEDs and can be controlled via RS232 or I2C. If you want to learn more about the techniques used, just visit the website of the Chaos Computer Club Cologne.

At 1/4 cubic inch in volume and a weight of less than 1 ounce, these mini-robots being developed by Sandia National Labs may be some of the smallest autonomous untethered robots in existence. They’re powered by 3 watch batteries, and have tracked drive systems, an 8K ROM processor, a temperature sensor, and optionally a miniature camera, microphone, communication system, and chemical micro-sensor. The bodies of the robots are created through rapid-prototyping and are mostly constrained by the size of the batteries required to power them (meaning that they’ll shrink further with improvements in battery technology). With a top speed of only 20 inches per minute, each bot may not be able to get very far very fast, but they’re designed to be used in swarms to accomplish larger and more complex tasks. I build this project when I have a problem to driver stepping motor that draw current 3A at 3V.After search the infomation on the internet I have found LM2576-ADJ which is an adjustable output version of 3A Step-Down Voltage switching Regulator and capable of driving 3A load with excellent line and load regulation.
You can change R1 and R2 for your desired output voltage.In my design I use the circuit from the example circuit in data sheet and it works fine.

Built around a single 8038 waveform generator IC, this circuit produces sine, square or triangle waves from 20Hz to 200kHz in four switched ranges. There are both high and low level outputs which may be adjusted with the level control. This project makes a useful addition to any hobbyists workbench as well.

All of the waveform generation is produced by IC1. This versatile IC even has a sweep input, but is not used in this circuit. The IC contains an internal squarewave oscillator, the frequency of which is controlled by timing capacitors C1 – C4 and the 10k potentiometer. The tolerance of the capacitors should be 10% or better for stability. The squarewave is differentiated to produce a triangular wave, which in turn is shaped to produce a sine wave. All this is done internally, with a minimum of external components. The purity of the sine wave is adjusted by the two 100k preset resistors.

This is my very first construction with the cheap Atmel’s ATtiny15 and the DS1820 thermometer. The main goal was the BIG display from the 7-segment LED modules. (And cheap + simple construction, of course…)

My thermometer is really simple, but efficient. It contains from three parts: A display , an outdoor thermosensor and a main board. Construction is as simple as it can be – the AVR reads the temperature from the 1-Wire thermometer and sends necessary data to the display.

The display is made from two dual 7-segment LED displays. I made simple 1-sided PCB with these LEDs and one 40-pins header, regardless “logic”, just simple wired. This display board is connected with the main board by the cheap and common 40wired flat ribbon cable, used in the PCs to connect an ATA (IDE) disk to a motherboard.

This device may be useful for florists and other who like green environment at home but forget to water them regularly to water them. Ficara Emilio have built and adapter which receives information from remote radio station (Oregon Scientific) module via 433MHz RF channel. Weather station provides temperature and humidity data. But to receive such data you need to have a receiver which usually is included in the weather station kit. But what if you want to receive data from weather station which is neighborhood or you want to to see information on computer screen.

I’ve been working on this project for about 6 months now. It’s a digital multigauge based on the arduino. In its current form it shows oil temp, turbo pressure, accelerometer readings, a timer, and two misc temps. The code is freely available (though not 100% complete) as are the schematics. I designed the project to be an in car sensor display but one could modify the code and general idea to have a simple weather display, watch stocks, view environmental readings, check on a robot’s health, etc.

AIR is a public, social experiment in which people are invited to use Preemptive Media’s portable air monitoring devices to explore their neighborhoods and urban environments for pollution and fossil fuel burning hotspots.

Participants or “carriers” are able to see pollutant levels in their current locations, as well as simultaneously view measurements from the other AIR devices in the network. An on-board GPS unit and digital compass, combined with a database of known pollution sources such as power plants and heavy industries, allow carriers to see their distance from polluters as well. The AIR devices regularly transmit data to a central database allowing for real time data visualization on this website.

While AIR is designed to be a tool for individuals and groups to self identify pollution sources, it also serves as a platform to discuss energy politics and their impact on environment, health and social groups in specific regions.
