Headless Ghost is a display emulator (dummy plug) that fits discreetly in to a HDMI socket.

It fixes a problem you probably didn’t even know you had – unlocking the full potential of your graphics card hardware.

By simulating the presence of an attached display, Headless Ghost allows you to use all of the power and available resolutions locked away inside your graphics hardware, which might otherwise be disabled when there is no screen available.

High power of the UDOO “asks” for usage. One of many occasions to make it is to use various available periphery thus gaining a truly universal platform.

Favorite powerful embedded SBC called UDOO (S975-G000-2100-C2) already found many fans. Maybe also because of its compatibility with the Arduino Due platform (hardware and software) and mainly, it´s possible to connect it with various accessories. Thanks to a wide range of interfaces (USB, Ethernet, bluetooth, WiFi, …) is a connection of periphery flawless, what´s also a case of the 5MPx camera (autofocus).

Despite miniature dimensions this camera provides very decent resolution and speed – for example VGA (640×480) @90fps or 1080p @30fps, or QSXGA (2592×1944) @15fps. Also beneficial is recording of a video in a full 70°field of view (FOV).For a practical usage and application development with UDOO also serves the „Starter kit EU” containing an adapter for the third USB, RTC battery holder, HDMI cable with the UDOO logo, USB/ Micro USB Type B cable, SATA power supply cable, power supply adapter and an 8 GB micro SD card.

Perhaps the biggest “attraction” is the spacious 7“ display KIT LCD 7”–Touch 800×480 px RGB with a capacitive touch panel. By connecting of this display with the UDOO microcomputer, we get a ready-made platform usable to control various processes, with a power, which easily suits to majority of applications. Detailed information about the UDOO can be found in our article: Do you want a microcomputer which will „handle everything“?.

Magnusk designed the Pipistello Spartan 6 development board with the same IO headers as the Papilio One. It features 64MB of RAM running at 200Mhz, the FDTI FT2232H High Speed USB IC, HDMI output, and a micro-SD card holder. [via]

So the only option left was to make my own board – basically merging the FPGA and LPDDR from the LX9-Microboard with the form-factor, wing interface and tool-set from Papilio, then adding all the needed interfaces on-board (and then some more to make it more interesting).

Monolithic component DVIULC6-4SC6 for an ESD protection of high speed signals is a guarantee of a high reliability and a long lifetime of devices, especially in an industrial environment.

You may have already had a device, which stopped functioning without an apparent cause, or even worse – it started functioning with unaccountable dropouts. The reason may have be very probably a damage by an electrostatic energy. Consequences of such a damage are always unpleasant and often hard to detect. In the most of cases it would be sufficient, if the device contained components of an ESD protection. Price of these components is a fraction of the price in comparison to potential damages, which an ESD (electrostatic discharge) can cause. For an efficient protection against a static energy it is usually necessary to meet two requirements: to use suitable protective components and also to carefully design a PCB with minimalization of parasitic inductancies.

Advantages / Features:

  1. ESD protection of 4 lines
  2. complies with IEC61000-4-2 level 4
  3. able to protect a power line (Vbus)
  4. ultra-low capacitancy 0.6pF/865 MHz
  5. high data integrity, usable up to 1.65Gbit/sec
  6. fast response
  7. SOT23-6L SMT package
  8. higher reliability thanks to a monolithic integration

DVIULC6-4SC6 is a modern component from ST Microelectronics intended for an ESD protection of a wide variety of high-speed lines like DVI, HDMI, IEEE1394, USB, ethernet, video lines and SIM cards in communication devices. In a miniature SOT23-6L SMT package it is able to protect 4 independent signals and also to protect power supply (Vbus/GND) thanks to an integrated transil. With an ultra-low 0.6 pF capacitance and an excellent capacitance matching to gnd, as well as between lines, ensures high level of signal integrity and enables troublefree protection of pair signals without asymmetric distortion up to 1.65 Gbit/sec speeds. DVIULC6-4SC6 represents an integrated monolithic solution with a high reliability, ensuring compliancy with existing ESD standards on the device level, hence greater immunity at a system level.

Detailed description will provide you the DVIULC6-4SC6 datasheet.
