New 6W DC/DC module series TEN5 won´t be scared neither of a very fluctuating input voltage, that´s why it´s ideal even for battery-operated applications.
Series TEN5 is a well proven reliable series of insulating DC/DC modules with a fixed output voltage, in case of TEN5-2411WI it is 5V. TEN5 series is available in so to say “basic” version with a 2:1 input voltage range and also in this „WI – wide input“ version, with a 4:1 ratio. In the most of cases, it´s probably possible to choose an appropriate type, for example TEN5-1211 with an input voltage of 9-18V, which is for example ideal for 12V applications with Pb accumulators (SLA). However namely for the mobile applications it can be beneficial, if a given device could be powered also by for example 24V, used in cargo trucks.
TEN5-2411WI with an input voltage of 9-36V and 5V/1A output is suitable this new type from our stock offer. Besides mentioned wide range of input voltages it also features a good efficiency (79% typ.) and excellent regulation at a change of input and/or load. Enhanced operating temperatures range (-40 to +85°C) and resistance to a continuous shortcut make it suitable even for demanding applications. Also useful is the built-in filter to meet EN55022 Class A and FCC level A. Metal shielded package in a standard DIP-24 package with an insulated base plate simplifies PCB design and also assembly to a PCB. In the TEN5 series can be found 2 versions: with input voltages of 9-36V or 18-75VDC with various output voltages, including symmetrical ones.

Inrush current, effective power, power factor, harmonic distortion, … all these and other parameters handles CM8 with easiness.
Clamp multimeters are often used mainly thanks to their ability to measure AC (and even DC) current even without a disconnection of a wire. But it´s only one basic feature, which more sophisticated devices can use even for another purposes, like comfortable measuring of power and power factor. FTDI introduces on the market technology EVE – complete graphic solution suitable also for slower microcontrollers.
Paraphrase with the woman´s name is very near to a name of a new technology of display control – EVE – embedded video engine. Company FTDI as a well known producer of USB solutions with a slogan USB-made-easy, decided to bring this philosophy even to a field of graphic solutions. The first representative of a new family is the FT800 graphic chip, containing all necessary to create a powerful graphic output. Perhaps the biggest advantage of this solution is, that „EVE“ puts only minimal requirements on the speed (and resources) of a Host processor, that´s it can cooperate even with smaller „low-end“ microcontrollers (Atmega, PIC, 8051,….) with a very small power consumption.
The essence of small requirements for a Host processor resides in a fact, that FT800 contains al functional blocks necessary for graphic operations and control of the display itself like:
● graphic controller with a clock (timing) generator
● touch panel controller
● frame buffer
● memory (registers, ROM, RAM)
● graphic processor and co-processor
● MCU interface (I2C, SPI) and other blocks.
Moreover FT800 also contains an audio module (synthesizer and a DSP sound processor with DAC) thus FT800 also provides a sound output (mono).
Besides a significant simplification of a graphic output is the idea of „EVE“ also based on a fact, that it has to enable a cheap production of a graphic output for a target device. According to an example from FTDI (displayed on an attached picture), it´s possible to simply build a powerful „display“ for the price of under 19 USD (at a volume production). At the same time this solution lowers requirement for a count of components (BOM) and also for a PCB space. Graphic capabilities of a new chip are really impressive as it features even such properties like anti-aliasing (subjectively sharper image even on a low resolution display), alpha blending (shading, 3D,…) and built-in complex pre-defined shapes and tools. All programming of FT800 is object-oriented, so for example drawing of a simple bargraph takes only 5 commands. To create a graphic user interface (GUI), the user initializes an object memory (up to do 256 kB) and then controls specified objects and their attributes. The result is the above-mentioned low load on a Host processor.

Lantronix xPico WiFi module enables to directly configure a target device via a software access point – without a need to access a client´s network.
Lantronix xPico WiFi is a new module with a dual serial port (+USB 2.0, + SPI) enabling to connect target devices into WiFi network with several features making it user very friendly. xPico WiFi is of the same miniature size like its near familiar – xPico (ethernet), which was introduced to you in the article „Do you need a chip-sized Ethernet ?” and it also has the same pinout, offering an unusual flexibility at the device designing.
As we´re already used to at products from company Lantronix – for a real usage it isn´t necessary to write a single row of code neither load any drivers. Perhaps the biggest advantage of the new module is, that it provides a simultaneous software AP (Access Point) with a DHCP server and Client mode, what means, that besides operation in WiFi as a “usual” client, it also enables a direct access – communication with other WiFi device, e,g, tablet or smartphone. It provides a huge advantage to producers regarding configuration or servicing of devices in a form of a direct access ONLY to a given device, without a need to access into a customer´s network. Safety is cared by 256 bit AES encryption and a reliable operation is guaranteed in a wide industrial operating range -40…+85°C. The module is supplied by 3.3V and serial ports are 5V tolerant. Thanks to a low power consumption can be the xPico WiFi operated even from batteries (6uA standby).

With a height of only 4.5 mm are new terminal blocks able to connect LED modules and LED panels aesthetically and with a maximal reliability.
There are numerous SMT connectors on the market, which are suitable for usage on LED panels but even in other applications. That´s why it´s a logic question – why just Wago 2060?
Firstly it is because of a sophisticated construction of a terminal block with a globally known and million times proven screwless spring clamp CageClampS. This clamp has an optimum pressure on a wire ideally responding to a wire diameter, i.e. the thicker wire, the bigger pressure. Also thanks to this is the max. allowed current up to 9A (!). Further, it´s possible to install solid and ferruled wires even without tools. By a simple pressing to a terminal block (for example by a screwdriver), it´s possible to insert even fine stranded flexible leads and by similar way also to disengage. Features of a clamp don´t get worse neither after multiple disengaging of a connection and they remain stable even after a long period of operation.
From other positives it´s necessary to mention a “balcony” construction of an input portion, which makes installation of wires easier and faster. Sufficiently big flat area ensures a reliable application on assembly machines (pick-n-place). And finally – an aesthetic curved shape and a white/cream color cause, that connectors are inconspicuous and they don´t disturb on a PCB.
Terminal blocks are available in 1,2 and 3-pole version. You needn´t be in doubt that you missed development and you still don´t know a circuit operating on 1 pole – naturally the single-pole version is intended for connecting of several modules into series. A big plus is also availability of interconnecting both-sided pins enabling easy and aesthetic creation of a row (string) of several modules.
Pin spacing is 4mm and there´s also available a version with 8mm pin spacing with operating voltage of up to 600V. Connector casing is made of an advanced material (glass fibre reinforced PPA) with a very wide range of operating temperatures.
