1A DC/DC switch-mode regulators TRACO TSR-1 already found their stable place on the market and they successfully replace inefficient linear regulators.

Switch-mode power supplies are still more used in all segments of power supply, to which also belongs a regulation on the side of the load (Point Of Load – POL). Perhaps every designer is familiar with classic linear stabilizers of the 78xx or 79xx series. It can be said, that linear stabilizers are still suitable for applications, where there´s not a too high power loss arising on them. But when we need to gain for example a 5V/0,5A from 12V, a power loss of approx. 7V x 0,5A=3,5W is arising on the regulator. That is already a quite considerable power, which requires a sufficiently sized heatsink and a place on a PCB. At nowadays power consumption decreasing trend, it is better preferable to eliminate useless losses, what also enables to produce a device, which is less heating, thus also being usually more reliable.

TSR-1 from company TRACOPOWER represents a pin-compatible replacement for 78xx linear regulators and it also contains input and output filtering capacitors. TSR-1 reaches up to 96% efficiency (80-90% in average) thus not requiring a heatsink. Depending on local conditions in your device, it is only necessary to observe power derating of 2%/°C at temperatures of the regulator above 60°C (if such conditions can occur in your device). TSR-1 also provides further benefits like for example excellent line and load regulation, resistance to a continuous shortcut and an industrial range of operating temperatures.

DIN rail switch-mode power supplies of the TCL series enable even a parallel operation of up to 5 pcs, thus easily solving problems with an insufficient power at a possible extension of your application.

• Screw detachable terminal blocks („plug-in“), or spring (screwless) terminal blocks, both enabling a very simple assembly in a distribution box.

All types are being delivered with a plastic adapter (holder) included, usable instead of a DIN-rail, for example for assembly to a panel, wall etc. TCL series has gained a lot of safety attests and complies with all common safety standards. Also available is the TCL-REM240 module for a redundant operation of any 2 models from the TCL series, by means of decoupling. Another usage of the TCL-REM240 module is for decoupling of sensitive loads from a common main source. Insulating DC/DC modules TRACOPOWER TRV 1 series with a high insulation strength, provide a semi-regulated output in a miniature SIP package.

Series TRV1 is suitable everywhere, where you need a galvanically isolated supply with a maximum power of 1 Watt and with miniature dimensions. But TRV1 brings 2 bonuses – 3000V insulation strength and a semi-regulated output. TRACOPOWER launches the high performance TEN50 Series with 12 models providing 50W power in a 1”x 2”x 0.4 “ compact package.

Today already almost all of applications require a high efficiency of a voltage conversion. When we add to this requirement also saving of space and a galvanic isolation, we´ll get to widely used components – DC/DC modules.

The TEN 50 Series models feature a very high efficiency of up to 92%. Excellent efficiency is maintained in over a wide load range and no minimum load is required for an accurate output regulation. They are available in three basic groups – TEN 50-12xx, TEN 50-24xx a TEN 50-48xx with a wide input voltage range (2:1).

Low thermal losses and the use of highest grade components allow an operating temperature range of –40°C to +85°C while up to 55°C no forced air cooling is required. With an optional heat-sink this temperature can even be increased. An operation without a forced air cooling is possible even at higher temperatures – at an adequate power derating ( 2%/K above 55°C and 2,5%/K above 65°C). The TEN 50 Series comes with remote On/Off function and have an adjustable output voltage (± 10%).
