 Huh my laptop power supply was hit  its a delll inspiron 5000  now discouvered two diodes knocked out one i found the replacement the other i can't because i don't know the colour code, on board it reads
'pzd' the colours on it' appaers BROWN (broad ring) brown (center) green on the other end. If any one could identify please e-mail me .....

Use a 12volt source and a 10kohm resistor. The voltage of the zener will be apparent. Are you sure it's bad? A diode will often display the resistance that surrounds it, thus measuring a low voltage. Zeners will display a voltage under low currents so you don't have to worry about testing it.
