It clicks, no neon light, only a power indicator.

Have you heard the element turn off again?

If so it means that the thermostat doesn't have a high enough heat setting.

I think I spent a whole 8 bucks for my Iron at walmart. works fine.

Yeah I hear it click off. I get very rair spikes going justr above 170, but only lasts part of a second.
