As part of my senior design project, I need to be able to switch between two 12V, ~90A sources as an input to a large 1100W inveter.  I'm planning on using a 93000uF 40VDC capacitor to support the load during the brief switchover time.

What method of switching should I use?  Mechanical relay, solid state relay, MOSFET, etc?  I need to switch a large amount of current at 12VDC as quickly as possible.  What about using a make-before-break configuration?

The two sources will be a large battery bank charged by wind and solar, and a gas turbine generator.

Assuming the minimum operating voltage is 10V and the current is 100A, the 93,000

I do not answer private messages asking for help because no one else can: benefit from advice I may give or correct me if I'm wrong.

Please ask on the open forum if you have a question: if I know the answer, I'll be happy to help.

Use a heavy rectifier (Dual 100 A). If necessary you could bypass them by using a bistable relay of an appropriate contacts rating.
I used this system in my campervan: 5 kWh/12V Batterybank & 140 Amp Alternator, supplying a 1000 W/12V inverter...
