Laser Based rangefinder

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody out there could build me a laser based rangefinder from the guide and schematics at http://www.eng.buffalo.edu/ubr/ff03laser.php. The parts are since obolete in the guide but parts of the same specification are available from online retailers for a reasonable price. I intend to use the sensor on STAMP based robots, and using the new lego NXT system.
