Hello,

I would like to know if its possible to use a 8051 microcontroller to design a simple mp3 player. My microcontroller is 40Mhz and I would like it to read data from a USB or SD card. Is this possible? Does anyone have any good sites for usb protocal? Thank You

USB interface itself is a project, I once developed an interface with regular hard disk drive and USB using 8051. I can provide you with assistance about that project, but ain't sure that might work out for you in this mp3 read.

Yes, I spoke with my professor and She said this would be really hard since the USB Protcal is very complicated.

There are interfaces for microcontrollers (via SPI, I2C) that will allow communication to/from USB devices or memory cards, but I'm not sure if they'll cope with the data rate needed to play MP3s.
