The Arduino controls a Geared Stepper Motor 28BYJ-48 via a ULN2003 Stepper Motor Driver Board. The 4×20 I2C LCD display and 5 micro switches form the interface to the Arduino. The controller has a Manfrotto 200PL-14 quick release tripod mount for attachment to my tripod and other mounting hardware fitted with a Manfrotto 323 Quick Release Clamp Adapter. Power is provided by a 50000mah USB Power Bank Battery Pack.

This S.M.A.R.T. Alarm Clock (Setup for Meetings, Appointments, Reminders, and Tasks) uses the Arduino Yún, which is a special Arduino with two processors. One processor runs an embedded version of Linux and is connected to the internet over wi-fi or Ethernet. The other processor uses the same chip as the Arduino Leonardo microcontroller, allowing the Yún to work with most Arduino shields and accessories. By using the Arduino Yún, this project can talk to complex web services with the Linux processor, and interface with hardware — an LCD touchscreen — on the second processor.

Automotive Chip-On-Glass LCD Dot Matrix Driver

The automotive products are quite recognized nowadays. It brings high demand on automotive chip and other related electronic devices. These demands are diverse, which brings difficulties to automotive developers. In this design, users are provided a modifiable firmware using In-System/In-Application Programming (ISP/IAP) via USB. It features the Vertical Alignment (VA) Chip-On-Glass (COG) display module with integrated backlight. The power supply can be done either via USB or an external power supply. This can also be used for an external VLCD that also provide temperature compensation. Its 100 segment and 18 backplanes allow the system to drive up to 1800 elements for graphic display.

The design is comprised of PCA8539DUG 100 x 18 COG automotive LCD dot matrix driver that generates the drive signals for multiplexed LCD, which in this design it is a Passive Matrix Vertically Aligned (PMVA) negative display providing a very dark background with a very wide and symmetric viewing angle. The NX1117CE low-dropout linear regulator is used to provide 3.3V supply for the backlight and the microcontroller. The LPCXpresso low-cost development platform provides the variety of interfaces with respect to the customer designs or needs. It is a highly integrated software development environment for NXP’s LPC microcontrollers. The JP1 to JP6 are used to select either the I2C – bus interface, or the SPI interface. They need to be all in the same position. The silk screen indicates which position to use for a given interface. The JP7 is a jumper that connects the VLCDOUT and VLCDSENSE to the VLCDIN pin of the PCA8539. It must be placed if the internal voltage generation is used. The JP9 may not have been soldered into the board during manufacturing. Instead, a 0Ω resistor (R2) is mounted, in parallel with this jumper. Removing the 0Ω resistor and mounting the jumper makes it easy to insert a current meter and measure the current consumption to the VDD pins of the PCA8539. After measurements, a jumper header can be inserted. The PMEG3005CT 500mA low VF dual MEGA Schottky barrier rectifier is used for the polarity and stress protection.

The development in automotive is quite helpful to people. It is use to accomplish task, save lives, and protect people from any type of danger. With this new design of automotive LCD, it is expected that automobiles will be able to optimize its usage and capability to serve people

EA DOGS displays – small by size, big by features

Minimum power consumption, very good legibility and a lot of versions – these are the EA DOG displays.

When we speak about “versions” – in case of EADOG from company Electronic Assembly it means a lot of “glass” types (STM, FSTN, transflective,…) and what is unique – many s display + backlight combinations. Right thanks to this unique possibility to make your own combination display + backlight according to your needs make the EADOG series so versatile. We can find here extraordinarily thin and compact graphic and character displays:

  • 1×8 – 2×16 – 3×16 for +5V or +3.3V power supply
  • 4×10/2×10 – 4×20 for +3.3V
  • Graphic 102×32 .. 240×128 for +3.3V

Character displays are with the SPI interface, some are also with I2C, and 4/8 bit. Simple 3,3V or 5V power supply further simplifies their usage.
In the EADOG family can be found „S“, „M“, „L“ and „XL“ series (EADOGS, EADOGM,…). The smallest one – EADOGS is suitable even for miniature applications, where a place is precious, but still a display is desirable or necessary there. On stock we keep three graphic versions 102*64 px with 33,6*23,4 mm active area. The newest member in the family of these small displays is the EA DOGS104-A character display (4×10 with a small font or 2×10 with a big font), while the character height may be changed by software. EA DOGS104-A is in standard equipped with 3 character sets (EN, EU, cyrilic).

The Atmel SAM L22

Atmel has recently announced the addition of the SAM L22 series to its family of secure, ARM® Cortex® M0+-based MCUs. These new devices offer a built-in, ultra-low power capacitive touch interface with a segment LCD controller that can deliver up to 320 segments. Typical applications for these controllers would include low-power devices such as thermostats, electric/gas/water meters, home control, medical and access systems.

Their inbuilt features make them suited to IoT applications and the SAM L22 series includes security capabilities to deliver 256-bit AES, cyclic redundancy check (CRC), true random number generator, Flash protection and tamper detection to ensure information is securely stored, delivered and accessible. The devices use Atmel’s proprietary picoPower® technologies for low power consumption and smart low-power peripherals that work independently of the CPU in sleep modes.
