Thanks for the response. I bought a variety pack from Radio Shack. The color I chose to use was red. I got it working. My problem was the resistor was incorrect. There could have been more than 1 problem, but when I started over again with the correct resistor it worked. I'm hooked now. Unfortunately for you all, that means I will be sticking around and asking a lot more questions.

I'm sure you've heard this 1,000 times... sorry My son and I decided to start learning electronics.
