Yes, I am familiar with the 555... Where would you recomend buying these components (not the 55 I have one of those)? Would you happen to have a few lying around?

So If I would use bianary the circuit would look something like this??(attached) How does a binary display work (how do you read it)? I like this design more because it is alot simpler. Sundar said that I would need a signal inverter because of how I was going to use the counter. Is it still needed? Thank you soo much for all of you guy's help so far! When I get sometimes I'm going to draw out sundar's circuit... Becasue I would really rather have the 7 segment display...

So recently two other friends and myself took on the project of making a device that launches tenis balls. I would like some sort of counter that counts how many balls that have been shot. My concept was have the counter be able to count how many times the ir beam had been broken and display the number up to 3 digits... Unfortunatly I have no idea of where to start... I tried googleing electronis counter project and different variations and the results were always "electronis counter measure"... I'm lost. ???

I need something capeable of counting and displaying the number of times the IR beam is broken... I don't really know where to start... I'd like to display it on a 3 digit 7-segment led display. Is there anyway to do this with out a programer? Feedback and help is much appreciated! ;D

how about some kind of moddified printer/scanner drive belt with a metal plate attached on the top to rest the glass on? So instear of tring to buy a belt wide enoungh for the glass use a thinner one...

I don't know. I know very little about IC's and not enough to know the difference between them. I have used a 555 timer in one of my projects before, I got the directions ofline. It worked, but I don't know why or how it worked. This is a very vast topic I know... Is there a beggining to start at?

I want to learn to use IC's... I have looked around on the internet and I can't find many resources... If you know of any sites or would care to explain some basics I would greatly apreciate it...

I was thinking some where alont those lines... So if I took out the 10k pot would I have to recalculate the value for the two resistors? If so what is the formula?

So, if I remove the pot what other method could I use to dim the leds. (I would at least like to have two different brightness settings..) Fast internet is always good...
