  1. I would like to use the 7 segment LED counter circuit to count pulses from a shaft of a motor. Can the counter count both up and down? Is there a pin on the BCD counter that tells it to count up or down? Also how would I be able to detect which way the motor is turning? Thanks, Seabran
  2. I would like to build a counter that would indicate how much anchor line I have out when achoring my boat. The windlass is basically an electric motor with a chainwheel on the shaft. The chain wheel grips the rope and pulls it out of the boat overboard or pulls it up into the boat. The sensor would need to be able to detect the rotation of the chainwheel so the counter would increase or decrease. I am thinking I could use a circuit similar to the counter project on the site but I don't know what kind of sensor to use to detect both directions. I can mount a sensor near the chainwheel and glue a magnet to the wheel. I plan to power this with the 12v system with the engine running. Any suggestions for sensors to use and counting circuit with display would be appreciated. Thanks, seabran
