  1. Hey all, I have a general question. I'm a newbie. I've never done any electronic work ever. However, the more and more I repair laptops & desktops the more and more I wonder how the actual hardware works that I'm replacing. So I've decided to take up Electronics as a hobby. Now being that I am a very intelligent computer person, doesn't at all mean I'm intelligent when it comes to electronics ;). I want to build for my first project something I can use (just like when I programmed I only programmed things I needed). I need something that will turn my lights on gradually starting at a certain period (over say a 30 minute period). Is that hard to do?? At this point I don't care if it interfaces with my wall outlet or just some stupid $5 lamp at a yard sell. I just want to kind of get my hands dirty. Now I know I don't have the skills to build such a device on my own, and I certainly don't have the skill to read the schematics alone. Is there a website I could go to to pick up something that does what I need it to do and build it, or put together 2 things that will do it? I was looking on electronickits and found a timer module, but I'm not sure what I'd need to gradually turn it on?? Any direction would be appreciated (even if you guys tell me it's out of my league, start with "this" instead). Thanks! Btw, Thanks for making the ebooks available, at least now I can read something about it!
