  2. I think you need a good heatsink for the mosfet, it can handle up to 30 A, though it gets really hot..
  3. Why don't you use a IRF640 Power MOSFET like the attachment. This might work. I used a LM3524 PWM once to drive a power resistor at 12 V / 2.5 A
