  1. Hey,

I was wondering if it was possible to get a lesser version of multisim that isn't so expensive.  I have just used up my 30 day trial and I have to say I'm hooked-- this program is by far the best I've used.  Anyway it would seem NI sells the basic version for 1.5k; a bit higher than I want to be paying at the moment, especially since I would really like to feel fully proficient before spending that kind of money. Well I was wondering if anyone knows of a training version or something similar for cheaper, but with a lot of the same features.

    Thanks!

  2. Impedance is essentially an elements resistance to AC power. In the case of transistors, when you have a low input impedance and a high output impedance it is usually evidence of a voltage amplifier, or common-emitter configuration.  On the other hand high input and low output impedance tends to produce current gain (tends to be common-collector).  With equal impedances you tend to produce power gain and is usually called a common-base configuration in transistors.  The last configuration isn't used too much but it is used in RF amplification :D.

  3. Hey so I'm trying to optimize my power supply design for cost.  The circuit design to me isn't a problem but my familiarity with fabricating front panels and mounting various components to an aluminum chassis at a low price is a problem!  I looked at the website suggested earlier for professional quality front panels, but right now that's not really what I'm looking for.  I am looking for a supplier of aluminum panels with various dimensions and reasonably priced; particuarly, dimensions which would fit a front panel design.  Any suggestions are welcome!

  4. Hey, so I'm building a dual polarity power supply and I'm having the hardest time finding the capacitor rating I'm looking for.  I was under the impression this capacitor was fairly common but after digging around it seems to be really hard to find.  I have found 4700uF electrolytic capacitors with a 50 volt rating, but pretty much no 4400uF capacitors.  If anyone has any suggestions on a good place to get these, than please don't hesitate.  Perhaps Jameco?

  5. Hi,

I've just recently started circuit design as a hobby and I'm looking for recommendations on electronic surplus stores.  Right now I'm interested in building power supplies and amplifiers, but I like to experiment with a variety of systems including transmitters and converters.  Anyway I'm having a hard time finding a good place online that sells parts.  This includes passive components, active components and pretty much any type of hardware.  I do know a few sites, but I'd like to hear other opinions. Also, I live in the Seattle area so if anyone knows any great stores besides Vetco and Fry's that would be very helpful!

    Thanks
