  1. Standing waves occur along a transmission line.
  2. Depending upon which country you are in, you can buy adaptors which allow you to connect one type of plug to a different type of socket.
  3. Sony sell service manuals and spares to the public. Ask a dealer for their address in your country.
  4. The (digital) multimeters which I have encountered that give an audio signal with the probes shorted do so only on a continuity range. You don't say what range you meter was on when it beeped. Doesn't the manual tell you under what conditions it does so?
  5. Hmmm ..... The switch on the trigger pin is a momentary action one? The circuit looks fine otherwise (with a pull up on pin 2).
  6. Pin 2 needs to be "pulled up", so connect a resistor from it to the positive supply.
