the photo flash cap ive got a colection of these and even with one charged up with a photo flash camera unit , i dont feel a thing untill i conect another photo flash capacitor to the first then i sure feel it , look in the high voltage stuff section you will find some ideas that may be of use even the high voltage photo flash capacitor charger. useing a glove , if your useing one of those on the market that you can get with push buttons on it you may find them at some toys store s just take out the insides and use that for a stun glove, but then you would need to redesign the hv circuit to be small enougth to fit in it

The high-voltage capacitor in a disposable camera's flash circuit doesn't make the high voltage, it just stores it for a few seconds. Making it bigger or using more than one will just take a longer time to charge and you will end up with the same voltage.
To make a higher voltage you need a transformer with a higher step-up ratio, like from a TV, and a more powerful transistor circuit to drive it . Since it will use more power a larger battery might also be needed.
In electronic circuits, if you change one thing that affects its power, you usually must change many other things to match.

Try a higher battery voltage with the flash circuit, then it will try to make a higher output voltage. You might get lucky so the parts won't break-down too soon. If you are unlucky, the parts will fail the first time you try it.
My very 1st portable radio was small and not very loud. It used a single 9V battery. I tried two 9V batteries to feed it 18V and it played much louder for luckily a long time without breaking down. But two batteries costed twice as much and I had to replace them much more often. It also looked stupid with the 2nd battery attached to its outside with a rubber band. ;D

hello audio guru hows my favourite expert going. my high voltage photo flash cap charger charges a photo flash cap fast and i can slow it down by adjusting it , now that stored charge i can dump it into maybe a marx, anyhow i used the same photo flash cap circuit to charge a 47uf 350 v olts cap to and i dumped that into a 12 volts ignition coil for that big hv arc so with a good marx generater or even hv multiplier at least it can be a shocker or worce a killer .

That's right, I forgot.
You are discharging the high voltage of the disposable camera's flash circuit's capacitor into a car's 12V ignition coil so the voltage gets stepped-up much higher.
Maybe Glen can do that too, but use a small transformer from another flash circuit instead of an ignition coil. If he "dumps" the 600V from the original capacitor into the 6V winding of another transformer, he might get 60,000V out of it!

How are you going to insulate yourself from the charge?

The glove would have to be very thick, a normal leather or rubber glove simply won't do, the high voltage would just spark through the glove and shock the person wearing it.

Hi Alun,
The spark won't shock anybody and it won't go anywhere. It will just jump from one terminal to its other terminal. If you want to shock someone, first you must connect them to one of the terminals then a spark will jump to them when they get close to the other terminal or just touch both terminals on them.

Yes it will as long as the electrodes are far enough apart the spark will leap from one electrode to the person and back to the other electrode see picture.

My main concern is that a normal rubber or leather glove won't be thick enough so it won't be a good enough insulator to protect the user from the shock.

audio guru thats right and you see that small transformer in the camera photo flash unit , well in the case of the high voltage photo flash capacitor charger i used the next best thing , a disc shaped flyback without the biult in high voltage trippler and i used the half wave rectification setup , something like that , it wouldent fit inside a glove , and your right the glove s insulation isent good enougth

Isn't a glove used just to hide it?
Glue a piece of insulation to the outside of the glove and glue well-insulated high voltage wires with bare ends on top of it.

Aren't we talking about a powerful STUN thing? A Fazer or Tazer produces a couple of watts. Wouldn't you need about a thousand photo flash units to equal its power?
I know, the shock from a single photo flash unit is much more than just a tickle.

Here is the diagram for a stun glove...also a whole lot of other circuits with which you can ZAP yourself and or others...WARNING THIS IS SERIOUS BIZ! people have been hurt maimed and KILLED with some of this SH*+ :'(this site also has the latest copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook... :-X

OK here goes with the attachment...hope this works...This circuit uses the common 555 timer as an Astable multivibrator, which drives the TIP transistor which in turn supplies pulses to the transformer. The transformer can be almost any small step down...say 120V/220V to 12V, 6v etc. Connected BACKWARDS,Please notice that using the diodes shown, this circuit will survive slightly longer than your "victim. :'(
Seriously though, even with the wimpiest componants, this circuit WILL KNOCK YOUR D!(* INTO THE DIRT. THIS MAKES THE FLASH CIRCUIT IN A DISP. CAMERA  SEEM LIKE FOREPLAY... :P

Ridiculous.
A little 9V battery will supply only about 200mA to the circuit and its voltage will drop to about 6V. The 6V at 200mA is stepped-up by the transformer and 100 voltage multiplier stages to 12kV at only 100uA if it works perfectly without any loss.

Your schematic shows an output of 30kV at 8A. That's 240kW!
A little 9V battery can supply only 1.2W, and most will be used to heat the circuit so nothing will be left for an output.

I think its .8 A, and that probably isnt acurate either.

If it was rated at 0.8A then it would say so. Your schematic says 8A.

NOW AUDIO YOU SAY THIS CIRCUIT PRODUCES NO OUTPUT :( well then build it and then test the output on yourself...IT PRODUCES ONE HELL OF A "NO OUTPUT"

Did you use a little 9V battery? It hardly has any current. It has tiny AAAA cells inside.
Did you build 100 voltage multiplier stages? Each stage divides the current. Nearly no current divided by 100 equals nothing. 12kV might make a little spark, like a piezo lighter.
