alkv23
i have 8 units of capacitor but im not sure on this capacitor. Need some info about this capacitor. Hope ur reply will good info to me. Below i give more details regarding this capacitor.sprague the brand20.0uf +/- 10&200dc735pplz help me. Give me more detail. Thanks
Staigen
Hi there alkv23Well, what is it moore to say? The cap is a 20 uF capacitor, probably a El-lyt, but not necessarily so. Any sign of positive or negative connections? Red and/or black connection markings? Red and black conecting wires? Without a pic it's almost impossible to tell moore! :(I belive you made a typo error20.0uf +/- 10&<--Should be % instead//Staigen
alkv23
hi Mr staigen i had attach capacitor pix. Hope it will be more easy to tell about it.Thanks
Staigen
Hi thereIts still hard to tell if it is a electrolytic cap! Can you upload a pair of pics, taken from the ends of the cap, then maybee it's easier to tell. But, sure, it's a 20 uF 200V capacitor!//Staigen
alkv23
Im also not very sure about this capacitor. Some people said its electrolytic capacitor but not confirm it. This capacitor use for high voltage power supply. The supply around 120kv. This use for electro beam welder machine. I got attach more pix and waiting for ur reply. Thanks. Staigen
Hi thereOk, i'm waiting!//Staigen
audioguru
I think it is paper and foil. The paper is inpregnated in wax or oil. See, I am a poet! ;D
Staigen
Yeah, i think so too, but i will(want to?) see the other end before i say that! :) and also what the yellowish compound is made of! :)//Staigen
audioguru
Yellow epoxy.
Staigen
Yepp, i belive so too, but i want to see it in the other end first!I think it is paper and foil. The paper is inpregnated in wax or oilMaybee, but dont you think it is metallished paper or even metallished polysomething? Polyester? Polycarbonate? Poly???If it is filled with epoxy in the other end than i will say it is something like that! But the welder, about 120 KiloVolt, sounds dangerous! I belive the boy dont know what he is talking about!//Staigen
alkv23
mr staigen i know wht im said. Its true that this capacitor using for 120kv. Its very high voltage and dengerous. The machine name is Electro Beam Welder and the part that capacitor contain is SR6. Made in England and were have 4 unit of SR6 here. The current also very high. We using 4 unit of step up transformers. If any small mistake in the operation it can kill.
Staigen
Ok, 120 KiloVolts. At how many Amps?//Staigen
audioguru
Eight of these 200V caps in series makes 1600V. Maybe only (!) 1500V is used to power an inverter at the primary of a stepup transformer producing 120kV for a CO2 laser or some other kind of beam maker. These caps carry a very high current. Look at the size of them and the size of the metal beam joining them.
Staigen
Yeah, i saw that! A laser, that explain things a bit for me! ;D ;DSorry//Staigen
audioguru
Maybe this cap is made by Sprague-Barre (SB) Electronics:
Staigen
Oh, thats the way it is spelled, metallized//Staigen
alkv23
Im not very sure about the amp but around 20a~30a. The capacitor use for what and why need to use this type of capacitor. Plz answer me this question>Thanks
audioguru
The caps are wired in series to give a very high voltage rating. Therefore they must be this extremely low leakage current type. The caps must supply very high current pulses. Therefore they must be this very low ESR type. Guest Alun
Connecting capacitors in serie may increase the voltage rating but it also increases the ESR and inductance.
alkv23
Ok now im clear that the capacitor wired for very high voltage. What do you mean by ESR? Im really sorry coz i dont know what is ESR?
Staigen
HiESR = Eequivalent Series ResistanceLook it up on internet!//Staigen
alkv23
Thanks for ur info. Its very useful to me. Thanks again.
alkv23
Just wanna ask guys now my capacitor is 20.0uf with 200dc, there have total 8 capacitor if i want to use 1 diff capacitor? ist possible? For exp 7 units 20.0uf/200dc capacitor and 1 unit of 15.0uf/200dc. Is this thing can work out? if can or cannot plz give me more info on it. Thanks
alkv23
hi
audioguru
The capacitors should all be exactly the same (value, type and manufacturer) to share the voltage equally. A 15uF cap would charge quicker to a higher voltage than the other 20uF caps. It looks like the caps are rated for a very high current, therefore must have a very low ESR.
