LM317 works Bad "SOS"

You can buy a cheap low-spec LM317 or a premium best-spec LM117.
Most ICs have an A-suffix premium best-spec version for sale.
They are the same except the testing picks-out the best ones.

I wonder about how they sort the TL07x or TL08x opamps. Their only difference is that the TL07x is spec'd and tested for low noise. What if the entire batch was low-noise but they had a big order for the TL08x? Wouldn't they also be low-noise?
Since the TL07x is low-noise, is it also better at anything else?
Maybe a TL08x is a "defective" TL07x. ;D
