Kevin Weddle Posted December 24, 2005 Report Share Posted December 24, 2005 Ever plotted phase shift? I created a peak to peak voltage divider with a series RC. I set the input to be a triangle and the phase shift to be 45 degrees. I happened to notice that all three voltages had to be in phase at peak source voltage. So I am thinking that phase shift occurs on the voltage upswing, and then on the downswing. Of course an oscilloscope shows them being 45 degrees apart. But this can't be absolutely correct in terms of the plot. So I drew the plot based on what the voltage can be if 45 degrees apart. It looks a triangle with the top cut off. indulis Posted January 10, 2006 Report Share Posted January 10, 2006 Phase shift is the relative shift of current or voltage of a point in respect to some reference. As soon as you introduce a time varying signal and you have capacitive and/or inductive elements, you will have phase shift. What 3 voltages? How and of what, did you "set" the phase shift?
