arthurq Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Hi, I'm new to the forum so please excuse me if someone has already covered this somewhere...I need to drop a 24-28v 800mA DC supply down to around 3-3.5v, causing as little excess heat as possible. I have tried a simple voltage regulator (LD1086V36) but it gets pretty hot (I can't really use a heat sink). Can anyone help? Many thanks! Quote
ante Posted February 23, 2006 Report Posted February 23, 2006 Hi arthurq,Welcome to our forum. The LD1086 is a low drop type linear regulator and you don’t need low drop type here, also you don’t need the heat from linear regulation.I have used the http://pdfserv.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/MAX724-MAX726.pdf with success in several applications and I think it would work well for you too.It is easy to work with, only a hand full of parts (compact circuit) and has high efficiency which means not much heat! windoze killa Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 You could also try Powerbox, Amtex or Lambda power modules. Quote
