Decreased Electrical Consumption Question

I've heard of a home wiring idea from a cousin some time ago about decreasing electrical consumption of motorised appliances.

I think this is applicable to air conditioners. Have you guys heard about this?

Motors are inductive and therefore create a poor power factor which causes currents that are higher than the amount of power that is used. A power factor correction circuit adds a capacitor to reduce the poor power factor. The amount of correction must match the motor but each motor is different.

Your power consumption meter does not measure the "wrong" amount of power at home but meters for industry do. So the circuit won't reduce your electrical bills at home.
