Ask about design a Frequency Synthesizer

I want to design a Frequency Synthesizer , but i don't know how to begin ,
May be I intend to use IC 8051 or IC 555 ... .
Can u show me some webpages about this subject ?

What you want is a variable oscillator. Start with a standard oscillator and try to vary the frequency using different components. Keep the active component the same or use several. You can switch power to components if you need. The component remains inactive until you switch power to it by using a small MOSFET other transistor.

I'm doing something similar with a 16c73. It'll have limited range, but will have a serial interface as well as direct and LCD.
