    What is this component?

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming that fuse is dead now since the board is charred and the switch no longer works - - but I want to harvest the transistor from the board. Do you think it will still work fine? I don't have a transistor tester yet! Btw that charring is right under the switch.

    What is this component?

Thanks both! I'm kind of new to electronics so I hadn't seen a fuse like this before.

    What is this component?

It's on the PCB of a light switch. It's got "TF" written next to it on the board and on the component itself it says "2A 250V". Is it a fuse? Also, is this big yellow brick a capacitor? It has no markings on it.

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

Take a look at this, Edd (and anyone else who is still watching this)... it works PERFECTLY! I spent a few hours carefully reassembling the TV last night, and gave the plastic cover a good clean which was full of dust and cobwebs! It's like a new TV in there now. The power-on moment was...

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

I didn't manage to get around to putting it back together yesterday. It will be Friday or Saturday now when I do it, hopefully. I'll keep you updated!

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

Thanks for your help again Edd! I couldn't have asked for more information! You are correct about the TV landing on its TOP, not directly on the screen. It went from being upright to landing perfectly on its top, doing a 180 degrees flip in mid air. I have repaired both crack and bend, so as...

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

Okay, update for everyone... hopefully now we can make some proper progress. The only thing left in the TV now is the tube itself. I got the TV back today, circuit boards separate: On Dave's advice, I then got a paintbrush and vacuum cleaner and spent a couple of hours getting it nice and...

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

Thank you for your detailed replies (and the diagram for my model!), debe and 73's de Edd! @73's de Edd -please could you explain to me what you mean by "kine" / what is "kine"? I haven't come across this term before and it seems to be key in understanding my TV! :) -Are you saying that my...

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

I've got an update on the Toshiba TV. I got a local guy who still repairs CRTs to take a look inside for me: He says that the PCB is broken in half around the flyback transformer so it is not repairable. :( Will have more on the colour bleeding one soon.

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

Thank you for the diagram and info. It will probably be a few days before I have the time/space to take the back off that TV. But if I locate that part and want to replace it, that will just be a matter of de-soldering and soldering again, right? And being 250V, will I have to take precautions...

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

OK, based on all of your responses, I think that the problem with my Toshiba would be too difficult to repair for me. I wouldn't feel at all confident with all of those high voltages present! If I had more experience then maybe I would try to repair it. I feel like I have learned a lot from your...

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

Thanks both for your helpful info. I think I may open it and look for anything obviously loose but not go much further than that. Sunnysky, since you say the arc might be inside the flyback transformer, do you think replacing the flyback transformer would be something to try? Is this...

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

Thanks for your response. Do you think then, that it's not a problem with the tube itself? I was hoping it wasn't the tube, because I've read that if it is then you basically can't repair them. I have never opened a CRT before so I'm a bit nervous about doing so - should I leave it unplugged...

Toshiba CRT TV fault... what could the problem be?

Hello! I have got a faulty 25" CRT TV to ask you about - it is a Toshiba 2573DB, and it is from 1997, I believe. I got this television in 2008 and it has been fantastic for retro gaming for many years... until a couple of weeks ago. I was moving the television downstairs and I temporarily...
