    PCB Component Removal

    The capacitor body is helpful for holding it in a rocking motion while applying a well tinned high-power soldering iron for removing one pin at a time. As extra resource, behead the bad capacitor with cutters and drill its pins out for mounting a new one.

    Do it another way. For over ~1uF, Apply to it the DC voltage labeled for ~5 seconds; measure its stored/held DC voltage that should diminish slowly to zero.

    As above; plus can be salvaged as found in junk electronics like switching pc supplies; and tailored by paralleling or serializing other values. Try 5.6K 1W 5% at ebay for small quantities and perhaps lower mailing fees than DigiKey. How do you know yours is bad ?
