    Component acquisition for hobbyists?

I've often wondered if a clone, an exact copy down to the atomic level, was made of you at one instant in time. It would have all your memories and think/know it was you, but from then on it would experience it's own memories/life. So it would not be you. You would still be you and observe this...

    Component acquisition for hobbyists?

Aw Yes, I remember: the days of the Maplin catalogue, full of fascinating kit and component pin-outs, "have you got the latest Maplin catalogue?" I would excitedly say to a friend at school when the new one came out. We would swap magazines, he Electronics Today International, me Hobby...

    Component acquisition for hobbyists?

Thank you, that's awesome. I'll go through the list, though it doesn't appear to have been updated since 2014. Just saw this "Similar Thread", below: https://maker.pro/forums/threads/best-practices-for-component-sourcing-in-diy-electronics-projects.301865/unread

    The Laugh Machine :D

This effect was done many years ago using magnetic tape by music artists such as Steve Reich (Different Trains), John Adams (Guitars I think) and most significantly to me (as an older person...) Brian May's masterpiece "The Prophets Song" where two (multiple, or extra loops of tape?) mag tape...

    Component acquisition for hobbyists?

As a hobbyist and occasional repairer (who prefers to re-cycle), I was wondering where to get components in low volume, i.e. one or two? I've recently found that AliExpress is a good source, albeit a long time to get a part, plus it seems hit and miss as to what your actually getting and the...

    LED lamp goes "poof"

Success! I happened to have a bridge kicking around, so bodged it and a fuse into the circuit as a test, and now LED glory! A moment of trepidation switching on, will it go bang?... Now to tidy it up and try to fit it in the case. Thank you again all. :)

    LED lamp goes "poof"

Thank you @Martaine2005 . Vout-GND is 10.6Mohm and Vout-+ve is 12.1Mohm. The upper ac-in on the bridge to -ve is 0ohm (out of circuit). The lower ac-in on the bridge to +ve is 0ohm (out of circuit). Across the LEDs measures open circuit, cap is definitely OK. Why did the fuse (and the bridge?)...

    LED lamp goes "poof"

I have just been given an LED lamp (an Xmas gift for a relation) bought from a cheap Supermarket Chain that went "poof" when first switched on. I'm a bit of a noob, but here, attached, is the Shenzhen spec sheet for the main part, ICL1103, modified in red to show how the PCB has actually been...
