I now realize after reading your post that you want me to monitor the POWER side to see if that's dropping out from 12v when the arcing/rattling is occuring....correct?
Hey Edd...thanks for the information....I will do everything you tell me short of sticking my hand in a live socket at this point....
I never shorted the base because I did not have the ability to short it and still take measurements....if I need to purchase some very small alligator clips to...
That looks about right to me....it is a 12v coil...seeing 6v on other side is obviously my issue...
I am a complete novice to this...just like when you first learn to ride a bike you look funny because you can't get it right away....
I'm completely confused at this point. I have read that...
Sorry man jumped in pool with my daughter....
I actually measured from a ground point straight to the base of the relay coil that is causing me problems....I thought base voltage should be at least .7v
Maybe I'm wrong...I'm ok with being wrong...I'm 40 years old but this is all brand new to...
Ok then maybe it isn't supposed to be .7? I just thought from all the help I'm getting and from what I been reading it's supposed to be .7v
Be nice if I could find a spec sheet on everything....then I can just know if something is good or not...
If the .5 volts I'm seeing is normal then I...
Ok another update....I tested voltage again....still getting the crappy 6 volts at the transistor end of coil...full 12vdc at supply end....bottom line is I fixed nothing yet haha...but I did learn about soldering....
Anyways I also tested base voltage at the transistor.....supposed to be .7v...
Ok update from the update...bad news...the relay started sparking....It was fine for about 1.5 hours....
Everything works great until it gets to temperature and then has to kick on again...when it kicks on again it starts making a rattling noise (sparks are flying inside the relay)
Is there...
Yeah I kept rambling on in my post...I'll try to keep it short and to the point here...
Got this for free because lady said it doesn't cool. I'm assuming she had it sitting for a while because it wasn't cooling....
Brought it home and plugged in and it worked...I'm thinking this lady is crazy...
Ok update. I replaced the relay and it is actually working now...everything is good but that does not mean I'm out of the woods. I replaced the relay because I ordered it from China a month ago before I came here for help....so I figured mind as well throw it in there....
Now when I initially...
So the easiest way to test this without desoldering anything is to check for 12v at the collector end of the relay while I am shorting the base to ground....by shorting the base to ground I am shutting off transistor and there should be NO CONDUCTION from collector to emitter....this should...
Ok thanks for all your help...starting to understand it better now....
Simply out if curiosity...how does the base gets its power? I guess the 12 vdc on the other side is constant and always on but the transistor acts as the switch to turn on/off the relay...but how does the base receive its...
