    Without numbers it is difficult to assist, they appear to be mosfets maybe? may have to do a little reverse-engineering!

    Not in detail, but in a simplistic way, one example would be where in a metred AC source where the components of a circuit are causing a phase shift between the peak AC voltage and the current, such as in a highly inductive load, you would be essentially be paying for energy that you were not...

    Are you using one of the A4988 versions mounted to a carrier ? Have you set the motor current limit? I tend to use the carrier mounted DRV8825 for this.

    Not really qualifies as "Stamp Size" but I have recently started using a Pi5 for compact Hi-tech project, uses Python to program, and quite the following forums out there!. https://forums.raspberrypi.com/ My previous projects were MicroChip based using assembly. So quite the change.

    Is it mechanical noise or electrical switching noise, steppers can be noisy, compared to DC or BLDC.

    @maker_o9scok4l_1743564570 For a very long while I have used Picmicro products using assembly. But recently have developed an interest in the Raspberry Pi v5. might be an avenue to explore, especially if one is a beginner as you claim to be.

    This is the problem with many industrial systems, they keep the info proprietary. ! What is the nature of the drives ? Do you know? AC,DC motors? Drive signal? It could turn out to retrofit with one of the PC based or other systems.!
