Great tip! I have a Black & Decker toaster ("Electronic Cool Touch", model TS275) with exactly the same problem - the lever would not stay down. I replaced the 6.2V Zener diode and now it works again. (I replaced it with a 5W 6.2V Zener diode, NTE5119A, which I hope will be a little more robust...
