    Yes, from the pin orientation etc, it seems to be a 78L. The only unknown is the output voltage.

    Thank you Dan and Martin for your help on this. The regulator is a 100ma positive type and is something to do with the eht setting, which is why I would rather not experiment.     Hello. does anyone have a manual/scematic for a 4100 storage scope. In particular I need to know the value of IC406. It is a voltage reg, but mine has fried itself. Any help would be very much appreciated. Steve.
