Two PCBs off of one power source

Guru, I consider this another success. The first communicator I built, which started this thread, was modeled after the "Alpha" communicator as coined by the folks at www.herocomm.com. This second build is modeled after "Gamma". Of the 10 communicator props built by the prop master for the...

Two PCBs off of one power source

I think I'll stay with my switch for what I have now on the MC34119, but if this new IC you recommend has merely those little solder pads used for PCB's I'll have to have new glasses - I have about had it as it is :)  Bruce

Two PCBs off of one power source

Guru, If I buy a few of these, can I use the same configurment as the MC34119? Are the pins the same etc. I haver a found places on the web that still sell the MC34119, but places like Mouser have them discontinued. Also, what about the pin 1 option, can I use this as a switchable power down...

Two PCBs off of one power source

Audioguru, two questions: The chip disable pin. if this is utilized, will it allow the signal to still pass through even though it is not amplified?  I have a switch installed now on the power supply of the MC34119, however, I seem to forget it is off, and when someone is calling me I can't...

Two PCBs off of one power source

Audioguru, The device needs to be able to use the sound effects even if I have the FRS off. That is why I just don't splice the MC34119 power off the FRS switch, because then I would need to turn the FRS on to also power the op amp for the sound effects. The op amp and FRS share the same power...

Two PCBs off of one power source

Audioguru, Here is the schematic again. The diaphram switches close the positive supply circuit. I jumped wires off the pads of the diaphram switch to the tac switches in my build, as I need them so I don't want to replace the tac switches. Do you need me to check what the voltage is at the...

Audioguru, The pads for the diaphrams are indicated in my schematic I drew earlier in this thread. Bruce

Two PCBs off of one power source

Audioguru, Where woud you put it?  I use two of the sound effects of the three that came in this unit - there are two diaphram switches. Would my regularly installed switches still activate the souinds as needed? but this capacitor and resistor would switch on when power met it, and switch off...

Two PCBs off of one power source

The FRS radio obviousley has an off/on switch, but the sound effects chip does not. On the original toy it came in there was no on/off switch, the sound effect is activated when a diaphram switch is hit wich completes the circuit - but it is momentary. You hit it once and the sound effect plays...

Two PCBs off of one power source

Audioguru, I have a problem with my first communicator build which we used that MC34119 amp in. Something is sucking the batteries of power even when it is turned off. I'll leave it on the desk after using the sound effects for a few days, and the batteries are dying. Any ideas? Bruce

Two PCBs off of one power source

O.K. I do have some .022uf and .047uf capacitors, so I'll go that route. Thanks, Bruce

Two PCBs off of one power source

Audioguru, You threw in a few wrenches on me here. I see the original 3.3k resistor is changed to a 12k and an extra 4.7k is added with  a "68nf" - what is that a capacitor? Do I have to use an nf capacitor, becuase those have to be ordered. I looked and see a 68nf is the same as a .068uf...

Two PCBs off of one power source

Audioguru, With this MC34119 circuit, can you tell me how to add (if possible) the proper components to boost the low end audio like what can be done with the LM386? Thanks, Bruce

Two PCBs off of one power source

You stated: "The LM386 has a 50k resistor at its input to ground inside the IC. The 1M resistor makes a voltage divider with the 50k resistance, attenuating the 3v p-p signal from the effects circuit to 150mV p-p. Then the LM386 amplifies it 20 times to 3V." So I did O.K. then? As fro the...

Two PCBs off of one power source

Audioguru, Oh yes, I see, and also, the amplification would not work with the FRS turned off. O.K. scratch that idea. Do you think I could run an LED off of the power pin of the onboard LM386, which I need to turn on when the FRS is turned on? And, do you see any issues with me having to use...

Two PCBs off of one power source

I don't need a volume control I just want to amplify the sound effects based on the value of the resistor, and since this FRS already has an onboard LM386, perhaps I could tap into that and  in effect feed both of these circuits into one speaker like the last build I did.  Why shoudl I build a...

Two PCBs off of one power source

I am creating a second FRS communicator.  I am using the same toy hacked sound effects circuit as specified earlier - (I have a few of them of course, the first FRS works fine but the batteries go fast). I wired the + speaker output to a 10 ohm reistor then to the - output as you had me do...

Two PCBs off of one power source

Audioguru, I created an amp with the LM386 as you stated. It seems to work fine. I used a schematic you drew up on another thread from last year. However, after looking at this 6v powered new FRS I am using, there is a LM386 clearly marked as such in use on the circuit board already. What would...

Two PCBs off of one power source

I went shopping today and bought four Zener diodes like I used for this other build, and will test them out tonight or this weekend,. Thanks, Bruce

Two PCBs off of one power source

Can you give me a bit more on the diodes. You gave me the way to hook up two diodes earlier in this thread to get 3v from 4.5.  So now I do this procedure twice using four diodes? Bruce
