    Thanks so much for the quick reply. I think the potentiometer is associated with the dimmer function (the slider at the bottom of the second image). That gauge on the left is a voltage indicator, which has not functioned while I've had this 'scope. OK, I'll see if a 600v or 1000V replacement...
