    LED project, heat dissipation

Allow me to explain so that I don't have any more people telling me that I'm endangering myself. This was the light when I first got my bike (license plate is photoshopped): As you can see, the light is broken, and there are no turn signals. The light has integrated turn signals. This is...

    LED project, heat dissipation

So in Canada you have to keep the stock bulbs and everything? you're not even allowed to put say a putco LED bulb in the socket/housing in your vehicle? Why would you hope I'll never be driving near you, rather than just hoping I'll get it right, or helping me get it right.....

    LED project, heat dissipation

Hmm, sounds like using those LEDs would take a lot more time and thought than I had hoped. I've been looking around a little bit to try and figure out what lumen output I should really aim for, and I'm thinking I should shoot for a lot lower than I was originally thinking. I might still need...

    LED project, heat dissipation

A motorcycle tail light. I want it to be bright but also rather diffused (over several LEDs spread out). I'll be building a circuit to fit in my front and rear turn signals. In the automotive section I got some help with building a circuit to allow me to use red dual-brightness bulbs in the...

    LED project, heat dissipation

I'm looking at what they have on Digikey for those, and much of what I'm finding is too large and more powerful than what I want. They also don't have any good yellow/amber options. I need these in white, yellow and red. Edit: In my first post, this data sheet is more helpful...

    LED project, heat dissipation

I would like to put 24 150mA smd LEDs in a space approximately 1.5 x 3". The LEDs I have picked out have a die heatsink that I believe needs to be thermally linked to a heat dissipating material. I have been searching for an easy way to do this (something to put behind the LED, on the board)...

    Motorcycle Turn Signal project

I'm now thinking I should change the way I go about doing this. Instead of trying to make sure that the brake light stays off when the running light lead is off, I could make the brake light off when the turn signal light turns on. Also this would make it so that when I have a turn signal and...

    Motorcycle Turn Signal project

The bike is made for standard bulbs, but I replaced the turn signal relay with a relay made for LEDs or standard bulbs (up to 130W). The new relay however does not have a switch time that is load dependent, so the LEDs do not flash too fast.

    Motorcycle Turn Signal project

Update: I just checked the leads to see if the running light floats or if it "flashes" or is grounded when the turn signal is flashing. I am measuring with a Fluke 115 True RMS Multimeter. I set the range to manual, one decimal place, and I saw the turn signal flash from 0 to ~6 to ~11.5V...

    Derek from Harleysville

Haha, we denote Bachelor of Science as B.S. in the US. Sorry to hear chem made your BSc in geology a little difficult. I've heard that about a lot of majors that require chem courses. I found that I loved it when I was studying mechanical engineering and had to take chem as a prerequisite...

    Motorcycle Turn Signal project

I am trying to increase visibility of my motorcycle by adding red running lights that also function as a brake light to the rear turn signals on my bike. I have already picked out which lights I will use, Putco 1157 red LED's. I have clear turn signal covers/lenses and I am going to modify...

    Derek from Harleysville

Hello everyone! My name is Derek, I'm from Harleysville PA, USA. I am in my first year of the "real world," I graduated from Penn State in May 2016 with a B.S. in chemistry. I learned what I know (whether that's a lot or a little, not for me to say) about electronics when I took a chemical...
