    From what I have read, the temperature needs to be closer to 170°C, 200°C, Water boils at 100c but the water inside the corn needs to be super heated in order to pop the shell open. If everything else appears to be working, I would guess it is a temp issue. M.

    The problem many times with these devices when they are tucked away, they can operate on a surge but get destroyed in the process, unbeknownst, but the equipment can still function, I would think the new selection would give you slightly more reliable protection. M.

    You would be better off with a timer, the motor is going to decrease in rpm as the charge in the cap falls. Also for several seconds may take quite a large cap. A simple 555 timer would do it. M.

    Why not use a single logic level Mosfet to control both relays? AND use a single DPDT relay. If you cannot you could still use a single Mosfet. M.

    As long as the security fuse is not blown, to extract the HEX code for it anyone that programs Pic's and has a Picki2 or Pickit3 or similar should be able to download it. How do you know the chip itself is not defective if the program is corrupted or the chip damaged it won't do you much good. M.

    One thing to watch out for when replacing or sub'ing relays is whether it has a vent that has to be removed when put into service. M.
