    I wouldn't use those suckers at all ! Their main disadvantage is they tend to pickup the pad from the PCB with the solder and all. Use solder-wick from a good brand, it will save your PCBs from harm and...:eek: Will save you a lot of heartache.

    You should know or measure the actual operating voltage of that motor. For 220V you should use the 450V(and above) CAP. only! For 120V you can use the 220VAC , 250VAC or 330VAC caps. Do what is the actual voltage of the motor?

    I would think it would be AC in the form of high energy light(frequency much above visible light) that would be converted directly to DC("photo-voltaic" 100% efficiency). DC would be good for storing in batteries for use in brown-out emergency situations. o_O

    They are called "board to board headers" or simply "pin headers" They are very cheap and easy to get. The standard are square pins , 0.1" spacing,they are easily breakable. It is possible to salvage them from old PC-boards etc. You may find them in a local shop near you as well.

    Assuming the 2A fuse at the transformer output is the correct value needed(it's location is not "traditional" though) , the rating of the AC-line fuse should approx. be 2A *50VAC/115VAC=0.87A. It is important that you measure the solenoid "on current" ! or better yet, post it's datasheet...

    So, You need to cascade two 74HC299 to get 10 bits. That would be a nice little project for you. Try it and you can get some help here as well. If you knew some VHDL you could program a small PLA to do the all thing. It can be done with a uC as well,some software knowledge is needed for that.
