    Have a look at RCexel ignition systems. They are intended for model engines but work just as well on larger types. They are triggered by a magnet mounted on the crankshaft plus a Hall effect sensor.

    Capacitive droppers do work. I have used them in the distant past. There use is not advisable but, if you are determined to do so, see the attachment for a better circuit and explanation plus sums. Very little power will be dissipated in the capacitor and is not a concern.

    I just do fixed wing with anything from 2 to 6 servo's. Have tried some electric where the speed controller has a 5V output for the servo's. Not to keen on those though. I prefer something that goes bang frequently.

    You need to get the soldering iron very hot, I run mine at 400degC, then the insulation assuming you have the correct type, will burn off quite quickly. A little practice may be beneficial. Note: Not all magnet wire has insulation that you can solder through.

    The easiest would be to use a 4 cell NiMh battery which gives 4.8V. You could regulate your battery to 5V. A small volt drop as the battery is used up will not cause the servo to not function.     Kids might hear that range but I doubt if adults would. The most annoying range is 2 to 3 Khz.

    If the datasheet says 6V max, then that is what it will be. You will probably damage them running on 7.6V. A simple 5V regulator will do it. Switching or analogue. The analogue type might require a small heatsink.

    I agree with Harald. I have recommended magnet wire before. If you can get the type that has solder through insulation, it makes the job a lot easier. I've been using it for many years.
