    Sound Recoder IC???

You have not yet played around with ISD series of voice record/play intergrated circuits?  The series covers times from 10 seconds to minutes and all kinds of interfaces.  These things are ancient. http://www.winbond-usa.com/mambo/content/view/36/140/

Soft start on a 555 timer

Inductors consume more current at low frequency that at high frequency.  This idea is better termed "hard turn-on"  Noise is what triggers SCRs.  monitor noise with o-scope.  Add ferrite beads here and there.  Use better swithces than voltage consumming mosfets, and use short wire lengths...

    IR Remote Control

Allow me to demonstrate the difficulty of making and interpreting commands without encoders/decoders.  Transmitter: 1. 555 Timer1 35KHZ carrier generator fed into input of an AND gate. 2. 4-bit Parallel to Serial shift register with command loaded on parallel inputs.  This functions as a...

5 minute timer where a mechanical motion is required

Yes, I thought of adding electrolytes to the water such as salt.  Fill a small cap with water and measure the resistance.  The range is 400k to 1.5M Ohms.  Add salt to this water.  Add a lot of salt.  The range is 20K to 30K Ohms.  This require 500v to pass only 20mA of current.  iceman302: By...

    555 timer for automobille indicator

YES.  51% duty suffices if you so wish to not use extra diodes.  Either way no big deal.  Use a standard Astable circuit with a larger than normal capacitor and high resistor value.  F = 1.44/((R1 +2R2)C1).  R2 10x larger than R1 for 50.xxx% duty.
