Which RAM option would you choose?

Thanks a lot, guys. That was really educational. I'll leave my 4GB in place on its own for now and only save the other 2 as a backup and/or for when the day comes that I simply can't do without a minimum of 6 gigs.

Which RAM option would you choose?

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I've found people here to be helpful and was wondering something. Today I upgraded my system's RAM from 2GB of 667mhz to 4GB of 800mhz. I understand that if I put *both* into my motherboard (I just have 2x2GB=4GB in there right now) then I could have 6GB...

Help me figure out these pin assignments?

"Appropriate current limiting"? You mean like a resistor in the circuit? I've been feeding the display a 5v current from one of the digital outputs from an Arduino Uno R3. No apparent problems have come up doing that either directly or with the sort of resistor I'd use in a simple LED...

Help me figure out these pin assignments?

Ah, yes. I hadn't thought about that. We *just* learned about MUX's in school. Three currents enter a MUX and the third one decides which of the first two will exit. Not sure how that applies here, exactly, but I guess some further experimentation is in order...

Help me figure out these pin assignments?

Hey everybody, I picked up this component, a Rohm LU-3011 7-digit display array. You can see somebody's blog post about this component here: http://bobdasquirrel.blogspot.ca/2011/08/rohm-lu-3011-led-display-module.html That said, Rohm's website seems to be utterly devoid of any material...

    How do NOT gates work?

I'm learning about logic gates and circuit design. Up until this point, I’ve believed (wrongly?) that a logically TRUE state for an input, call it "a", works out physically to a 5v current for TURE and no current at all for false. As such, a NOT gate would simply stop current going into it...

    Scratchbuilding an AM receiver--maybe a replica TR-1?

Thanks for all the input, guys. I'm really impressed with the feedback. As far as course expectations are concerned, that's actually what were were more or less told in the first lecture. I know it's a silly impractical thing build a computer with such simple equipment, and the prof added...

    Scratchbuilding an AM receiver--maybe a replica TR-1?

Awww..that sucks. Thanks for the info, though. I won't even ask if it's just possible to supplant period electronics for modern parts.

    Scratchbuilding an AM receiver--maybe a replica TR-1?

Why's that? What's changed so much that I can't do a prototype board build of this sort?

    Scratchbuilding an AM receiver--maybe a replica TR-1?

Hey Everybody, I'm a computer science student doing the dreaded "today you know nothing about electricity. In 3 months you must be able to build a computer from the transistor level up" class. Anyway, the one redeeming thing about this class is that we get a very open-ended choice for our...
