    Considering a design change

Faster loading, Mobile compatibility: Good. Change for change's sake ("modernising"): Not so interested. (Although the design looks very similar, so fine.) Fixed Width: Is this good? Not sure. Maybe. User-choice = good! :)

The Arduino sends out a PWM square-wave 0v-5v. I think the cap is for re-centring the signal to +/- 2.5v Not 100% on that, though! I'll be having another go at soldering, got to get back in to it! Will look over some more tutorials.

UPDATE: 1) I picked up a soldering iron! I don't have a proper place to work yet, as my hobby-desk is covered with toy soldiers in need of painting. But I had a go at soldering on a piece of veroboard. It did not go as well as I had hoped. A combination of make-shift work-space, poor eyes, shaky...

I've not forgotten about this project, just been a bit busy (Birthday, Easter, parent's 50th wedding anniversary, work, etc). i did write a blog-post, if people are interested: http://www.everything-is-scenery.co.uk/wp/turn-signals-on-a-land-raider/

I'm using one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221743311579 It says "supports 3.3v/5v input", so I'm hoping that means I can use 5V for everything ...

OK, I am now trying to set up my SD Card Reader with my Arduino nano. I am finding a lot of contradictory information and confuzzling info 1) Pins. SCK = Pin 13. MISO = Pin 12. MOSI = Pin 11. Where does CS go? I see Pin 10, Pin 9 and Pin 4! Also, is SC the same as SS? 2) Power. I have 3.3V...

Added a single button with pull-up resistor to A3 (gunValue) and interference is now gone! :) Still working on Audio.

Minor rewiring. Have juggled some pins to free up correct pins for SD card. Have been working on plastic plate to take LEDs/buttons, and design circuit. Not decided whether to use vero/perf board, or get PCB etched. Issue: When I press the Status buttons, one of the Gun LEDs lights up! Checking...

If anyone is interested, I've put a couple of pics on my Facebook Site that I use for war-games stuff. https://www.facebook.com/everythingisscenery/ I'll be adding more as I go along.

The regulator circuit I was looking at has a 100uF on the input and a 10uF on the output. Is this enough? Waiting for Audio parts to arrive ... Art waits for no man ... except the Post man!

Hmmm ... 4xAA would have to go in a 2x2 block (pair of 2xAA holders back-to-back?) to fit in the space. I've seen several tiny circuits for the Linear Regulator, including the linked one, so I can go with that (if my failing eyes and shaky hands can cope with the soldering!). I'll talk to my PCB...

While I'm waiting for Audio, I'm going back to Power Source for a while. Currently I have a 9v PP3 battery, going through a 7805 Linear Regulator. ( https://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials/57 ) Would I be better off using 4xAA batteries? I hear they have better mAh capacity. (...

Update: Have received my SD Card reader. Not sure how to wire it up, will investigate. Still wondering about Audio circuit. Not had a lot of time this week.

What is "smaller"? The sounds will not be too often, but yes, don't want to drain battery too much.

No 5k resistors handy. Got plenty of 3.3k and 6.8k. Will use these one way round or the other :) Waiting for rest of stuff to arrive now. And busy with real job :( Will build test circuit, and then add to real breadboard, and report. I've started drilling holes in the tank to accommodate LEDs...

Ok. Audio Amplifier. LM386. http://www.reprise.com/host/circuits/lm386.asp If you don't mind, I'd like to check I've got the components right. Components: 10k variable resistor. I presume this acts as a volume control. If I want constant volume, can I replace with a 10k resistor, and connect...

    Assorted Gubbins on toy tank

OK, I need a better amp! I can probably squeeze a second PP3 9V in the tank if needed, but obviously would rather not have to. LM386 seems a popular component to base a low-power amp around. Something like this: http://www.reprise.com/host/circuits/lm386.asp ? Thanks for definitions. I'm just...

    Assorted Gubbins on toy tank

I'm not too fussed about sound quality, and can improve the amp if necessary. 14x10mA LEDs should give me a couple of hours at least, which is all I really need. Is it possible to have a "better" amp? i.e. still increase volume while not draining battery so much? (Maybe with less distortion...

    Assorted Gubbins on toy tank

OK, I'm making progress with the audio. By which I mean I've read far too much, and am now confuzzled! :) I want to check a couple of things before I buy things, wire them up and watch it all go wrong :) I will be using a Voltage Regulator (currently using circuit ...

Short sounds would be fine, even if they stop everything else. The engine only runs when you pick the tank up, and won't be pressing buttons during that. Guns fire one at once, short "dakkadakka" or "pew pew". The Arduino Audio Shields I've seen cost ~£20, which is not going to happen. I did...
