    555 flasher isnt flashing

my sincerest apologies - i looked at the board again and noticed the gap in the very center was wider than the other gaps - when i moved the ground wires over to the battery side it started working!!!! (shameless excuse - my other breadboard does not appear to have the mid board break) what i...

    555 flasher isnt flashing

they def are continuous, i have used these boards a bunch, also - the led surely would not light at all if they weren't continuous?

    555 flasher isnt flashing

figured out some of the odd voltages - the breadboard rail provides significant resistance apparently....moved the pin connector next to the battery wire and it started getting proper voltage. Still stead on led tho 8.3 on pin 8 supply 5.4 on 7 discharge 5.2 on 6 thres 5 on 4 reset 3.3 on 3...

    555 flasher isnt flashing

i removed the beige led resistor since it didn't seem to be doing much, v over the led went up .03 as you'd expect, i read the resistance of the 100k at max resistance and with the MM set to 200k i was getting a reading of 44 for some reason. swapped it back for the original 10k which is...

    555 flasher isnt flashing

the 10k was switched to 100k to lower the frequency. I believe with a 100k it should now be about 1Hz? I am using a 9v battery The capacitor is def 10uF and polarity is correct I re-checked the values and they are the same however I may be using the multimeter wrong. When reading the value of...

    555 flasher isnt flashing

when i measure across the led legs i get 2.5 2.55 on pin 3 output 4.29 on pin 4 reset 2.57 on pin 1 ground 2.55 on pin 8 +V 4.29 on pin 2 trigger 4.29 on pin 6 thresh 9 on pin 7 dischrge 0.11 across the led resitor 0.11 across R1 4.68 across r2 4.3 across the cap all values are steady

    555 flasher isnt flashing

the power lines are indeed continuous, the led is getting power and is steady on (about 2.5 volts i think? will check again when i get home). The power lines are separate from the central component section and run the length of the board. The central tracks run in lines across the width of the...

    555 flasher isnt flashing

I think that must just be the picture angle, pin 4 is a short black wire and is connecting to +V Pin 3 is the very long green wire connecting to the beige resister which in turn connects to led - ground

    555 flasher isnt flashing

I turned the LED around and it didn't light at all (as id expect tbh) I wont lie, I pulled it apart and re-did it a bunch of times when making it, particularly around R2 (100k).

    555 flasher isnt flashing

aah, apologies for my crappy drawing - thats just meant to be the +V, the ground line is at the bottom (Ill just draw the diagram in paint next time). Grasping at straws here but could it be an issue with the polarity of the LED? (I'm at work and cant test till I get home).

    555 flasher isnt flashing

I made a post a long time ago about 555 timers and I considered resurrecting that post as this question is basically the next step along but as the questions are different i thought it'd be tidyer to make a new post. I'm trying to teach myself about 555 timers and have read through all the...

Basic understanding of low pass filter

LvW, I guess I just don't fully get what people mean when they say time and frequency "domains" (im not even sure how to consider frequency without time). For example BobK mentioned the same thing right away, "think in the frequency domain" and then starts talking the input period. When i said...

Basic understanding of low pass filter

Thanks for the reply, it was very helpful and explains alot! Its also especially interesting as im mainly wanting to learn electronics for audio projects so knowing how to output a certain frequency is excellent. Just one thing to clarify tho...am I right in thinking then that the output...

Basic understanding of low pass filter

I was about to write further questions as I am still confused however I then googled more articles about the whole thing and found more info they just added a tone more questions and confusion so im going to have to take some considerable time going through it all. Doesn't really help that even...

Basic understanding of low pass filter

I thought capacitor were resistors for DC ? my level of understanding here (basic)... a capacitors resistance changes in regards to the frequency of the signal passing through it, high resistance to to low frequencies and low resistance to high frequencies. In a high pass filter a...

Basic understanding of low pass filter

hello, I am very new to electronics and im trying to teach myself the basics - im currently looking at a basic stepped tone generator circuit as a means to get going as I need a practical task to learn (im crap at just absorbing theory on its own). I have made the following circuit...

struggling to learn basics - 555 timer led flasher

thanks everyone - very helpful, and i think anaolgkids post has cleared a lot up for me :D one last thing id like to ask before i go and do some more reading - so if the electron flow doesnt really matter, and in fact can flow both ways - how do you know in what order to place your components...

struggling to learn basics - 555 timer led flasher

Not sure if this is the correct board but here we go.... I've been trying to teach myself electronics as a hobby from various books and online tutorials however Im having a hard time almost as soon as i start. I have a fair understanding of components and what they do but when I try to use that...
