The magic of Paris, London and Iceland

Wow, what an incredible trip! Sounds like you packed so much into just a couple of weeks - Paris, London, and Iceland must have been such a contrast. Those aurora shots are stunning, and the frozen waterfalls must have been surreal to see in person. Also, interesting detail about Big Ben - I had...

    My speakers stopped working

Given the age of the speakers, it's quite possible some of the capacitors have gone bad inside the supply after all these years. Unfortunately replacing them can be more trouble than it's worth. I'd probably just look for a used replacement set locally rather than sinking money/time into repairs.

Not sure what sensor to use

For determining rotation in 3 axes but in a small space, I'd recommend looking into gyroscope sensors. The MPU-6050 gyro/accelerometer module is quite popular and small enough to fit inside a d20 die I imagine. It can detect pitch, roll and yaw to know the orientation. May need to do some coding...

Don't worry about being a newbie, we all start somewhere. @danadak gave some great pointers on components to get you started. And those videos will definitely help visualize solutions. Just take...

Electronics makers - Anyone visited South Korea? Looking for recommendations!

Wow! Thanks for sharing that story about the Dallas Makerspace! 36,000 sq ft for only $40 a month is an amazing deal. I'll have to check it out if I'm ever in the area. Looks like both Korea and Dallas have great maker communities to be a part of.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be sure to steer clear of the barbecue pork then. Wouldn't want to risk getting sick and ruining the trip.

Ethics of buying electronic modules from Chinese sites?

Those are some interesting points about buying modules from China. On ethics, getting good deals can foster creativity as long as we're not directly supporting human rights abuses. Maybe do some research to find reliable sellers. And don't stress too much if some modules sit unused, that's...

Confused with selecting the right battery for my project!!

Li-ion batteries and using low power devices like ESP32 are definitely the way to go to maximize battery life. Might also be worth spending some time optimizing your code and circuits to reduce power usage even further.

    Cellular Playground

Building something like OpenBTS could be a really cool project! Just be careful about the legal stuff since cellular frequencies are regulated. I'd check out the OpenBTS forums online - always helpful people discussing those kinds of projects. And definitely start simple if you're new to this...

    Air conditioner remote control

@jcage possible to control your AC remotely. An easy way would be using an ESP32 or ESP8266 chip. You can program it to learn your remote's signals using an IR sensor, then connect it to wifi so you can control it from anywhere. Tuniot is a handy tool for coding it.

I Need a Device that Can Tell a PC the State of Relay Contacts

It sounds like the single-button keyboard idea is probably the easiest turnkey solution here. No programming is required on your end. I'd pass that suggestion along to your friend. It should be pretty plug and play for monitoring the furnace relay contacts.

Home Based Income as an Electronics Hobbyist

That's really cool you taught it at a university level too. And yeah, movies never seem to get the code details right! It's funny when you can spot the inaccuracies.

    Crock pot modification

That's a cool project! Let me know how it turns out. Did you manage to take a look inside yet to check out the heating element? I'm curious to see if it looks intact or if maybe the issue is elsewhere. Fingers crossed this controller plan does the trick to get it cooking again.
