My most recent project has 1 problem that I can't figure out. I made a power supply for a tattoo machine. I am using a 12v battery pack that runs to a motor speed controller and then a footswitch and on to the machine. I have a volt meter wired to the output side of the controller. When I adjust my voltage to lets just say 6.5v, when i step on the footswitch the machine runs but my voltage goes up to around 8.5v. When I let off the switch it goes back to 6.5. Has anyone seen this or know how to fix it? Thanks for the help in advance.

Perhaps the motor controller needs to detect current drawn by the motor in order to regulate the voltage, and just goes into a standby state when the current stops? Or perhaps the controller is controlling current rather than voltage, and needs to increase voltage when the motor runs?

You are trying to measure pwm voltage with a dc voltmeter which will not make sense.

Ehhhhhhhhh . . . . . . . . . Tejano Tim !

Much better feedback intel . . . with your comeback ! :)
Why not try this ?
Where you now have that line feeding into the metering . . . . insert this gnats' brain circuitry.

The entering pulse train will progressively accumulate a charge build up in the cap and give you a DC voltage read out.
The shunting resistor is there to speedily drop down the voltage level readout , if you should start backing down on the speed control.
The end situation is that you will now have a DC monitorable voltage produced in relation to the motor speed.
Then, you are given a capability of repeatable setability . . . . . . . . while the blood is a oozing.
With you having the switch wired in in that manner, there will be a need to have the switch closed in order to have an actual motor loaded reading.

Thaaaaaassssit . . . .

Gee and I was thinking all the US companies, ,many who get paid with Federal Corporate
welfare and pay no taxes a whopping problem. Or the effective tax rate applied to US
citizens is > 2x that of corporations.....or the corporate bailouts, no bailouts for the average
US citizen, might just be a 1000000X sized problem than some people who will come here
and pick our lettuce (fruits and veggies, obscene working conditions in no small # of cases),
clean our crevasse in old age, and do the work an entitled nation seems to shun. Me and my Mom
cleaned up a lot of .hitholes, many nasty gross pig pen spills and messes, made a lot of beds back
in the day.

You talking about those folks ?

Looks like that is some Tee Shirt signage that should have never had the ink meet the silk screen press.
