The monitor would not come on and I could see and smell smoke coming from
the rear. It must be a relay, resistor or something on the high voltage???

Probably something on the high voltage, going thru a relay and burning up a
resistor.

Time for a new/reconditioned/monitor. Not worth fixing IMHO>
