Hi,
I am new to this and this will be my first ever attempt to do anything in the wonderful world of electronics. As I said I am very new to this so please excuse me (and correct me) if I make any mistakes.

My children have a car dvd player that runs from the cigarette lighter. The problem is when ever I turn off the ignition briefly the dvd player resets itself. How can I build a VERY (remember, first project!!!) simply PCB to sit between the power supply and the dvd player and maintain the power. I believe the dvd runs of 9v dc.

I have searched on line and can't find what I am looking for.

Thanking you all in advance.

The simplest solution is to connect the DVD player directly to the battery which is permanently live.

Another option is to connect a small 12V sealed lead acid battery in parallel with the cigarette lighter socket so it remains powered at all times. The battery should have a fuse in series with it and you should make sure you don't leave your DVD player connected when no in use, otherwise it'll flatten the battery.

thanks Hero for your reply, it is not really an option to hardwire direct to the battery.  I am not too sure about having a lead acid battery around the kids with thier little fingers. What I was hoping for was a small board that I could make that I can plug the cigarette lighter into, I also have a 9 volt rechargable battery that I could "plug" in which would produce a constant 9 volt supply to the dvd player if the main power source fails, (the ciggy lighter is a 12 to 9v transformer)

I doubt a little 9V battery will be able to supply the current required for a DVD player even for short periods of time.

You can get small sealed lead acid batteries which are non-spillable and pretty safe if mounted in a child proof container.
