Yes you can use a battery as long as it is 6.0 volts. How long it will last will depend on how much current the camera draws. If you are using 4 AA batteries there is good information here: https://www.powerstream.com/AA-tests.htm

Hi Dave,
Yes you can, just make sure you get the polarities right. You need to verify that the + of the battery goes to the + of the camera, and same for the -.
Typically electronic circuits are protecting against this but you shouldn't try it.
Just check your old battery and make sure the new battery has the + and - signs at the same locations.
