I'm not sure that this is strictly an electronics project but let's see how I get on.
I have a 2 kilowatt solar cell installation on my roof. It is connected via an inverter/regulator to my mains supply (not a battery system) and either reduces the amount of power we draw from the grid or else it pumps power back into the grid. (I get paid paid at a premium rate for power sold back!) I am considering adding a wind generator of about 600 -1000 watts and would like to use the same inverter etc for the turbine.
Everything I have read about wind generators assumes they are connected to a 24V battery bank. Has anyone done anything like what I want to do? I've tried a couple of sustainable energy web fora and everyone there is using either solar or wind but not both unless they are completely off the grid and running off a battery bank. I'm in the middle of Melbourne and have no desire to become totally independent of the grid but reducing my carbon footprint seems like a good idea. (We are into the 12th year of continuous drought here.) I've got a solar water heat already, the water tanks go in in about two months, the house is insulated, my wife and I ride bikes to work. The only thing we don't have is wind generation.
So what I really want to know is:-
How do I connect a wind generator to a photovoltaic cell system which is connected to the grid?
