I built a nifty little circuit that is running on the edge of the current capacity of 3 aaa batteries. It works intermittently when I jiggle the batteries in the holder, but runs fine off a power supply.

Anyway could I slap a 4.5 or 5 volt regulator on top of a 9 volt battery and get my 4.5 volts with more than enough current available? The load varies like crazy.

I'm also concerned about waste and head dissipation.

hi there

find a more reliable battery holder ... looks like you have a faulty one...

those small rectangular 9V batteries have very low current capability
only a few 100 mA ( ~ 340mA) its not gonna last long specially when 1/2 the power is being lost in regulation
