Designs of nonuniform electrostatic filters

I have researched a number of designs that claim to trap particles
electrostatically, or to kill pathogens with ozone, but these were all
commercial products (read: quite possibly snake oil).

I would appreciate if somebody posts link or other
to information about various designs of electrostatic filters,
especially designs with high nonuniform electric fields.
