Doorbell IC circuit -Black Bob

Dear All,

Last night my door bell stopped working. So I managed to break it apart to understand the problem.

I can understand all the components except teh black bob in the middle. Please see attached pic.

I know it is Integrated circut but not sure what type of IC is it?

It had melody tones on it.

Any ideas...for a minute i thought it was UM 66...

black bob (sic blob).....rajat, yes, as you state it is an IC. The packaging format is "un-potted" or "un-packaged". This is generally done with very high volume PCBs where saving $0.02 means adding 6 figures to profits....sadly, it also means that the device is so cheap to mfg that they do not intend for it to be repaired.

Ideas?

1) Check & verify the battery/power connections

2) Buy a new one.
